Should You Rent A Carpet Cleaner Or Purchase One? Well, that depends.
- Do you have kids, pets, or a spouse?
- Do you have a lot of carpeting?
- Are you or others living in your house, clumsy?
If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions, I would say you should just buy a carpet cleaner machine.
The one thing that causes a carpet spot to become a carpet stain is time. If you cannot or do not remove a spot right away, then you will be left with a stain. Carpet stains take a lot more work to remove if they can be removed at all.
When you have a carpet cleaner machine available, you will be able to remove the spill quickly. If you have to go to the store to rent a machine, it might take a few hours, or days, or weeks. If ever.
Why You Need To Purchase A Carpet Cleaner
Here is a real life example. A few months ago, our son woke up in the middle of the night, staggered down the hall and stepped from the tile hallway on to our bedroom carpet. From there he said “Guys? I don’t feel goo….” He threw up. On the carpet. 12″ from the tile hallway floor.
Of course we took care of him, got him settled down and back to sleep. Then I went to work cleaning up the mess. First removing what I could with a towel, then I grabbed the carpet cleaner machine and cleaned the area.
Carpet Cleaner Machines and Pets
If you have pets and carpeting, you know that accidents happen. Some times it’s just not making it outside in time. Other times it is the vase of flowers in the living room.
Regardless of the issue, getting to those carpet spots quickly can make all the difference. The smell of pet urine in carpet can be a real problem. But the faster you can get it out of the carpet, the better.
Buying A Carpet Cleaner vs. Replacing Carpet
This is really a no brainer, but I will quickly do a little math. The cheapest carpeting you can get at most home improvement stores is $.99 per sq/ft. 200 sq/ft of carpeting will cost you about $200 plus pad, tare-out and install. All toll, you will be into it for about $500.
You can buy the same carpet cleaner rental machine on Amazon for $399. Really! Go see for yourself here. It’s the real Rug Doctor machine and it comes with the hand tool and hoses! The hand tool makes upholstery cleaning a breeze! (Because kids, pets and spouses don’t just spill on the carpet!)
That same machine can also be used to clean the carpets in your cars as well. Again, money saved!
It just makes sense to buy your own carpet cleaner. I have had one for years and it has saved me a lot of money and time. They are simple to use and if stored correctly, they will last for ever!
I recommend the regular Rug Doctor machine over the upright versions. They are commercial quality and allow you to do a lot more than the cheaper residential upright carpet cleaners. With rental cost being $20-$40 each time, you will not have to use it very many time to justify the purchase. Especially if you have to replace any carpeting.
